Anshul Kamboj made his India ODI debut against West Indies in the third ODI in Chandigarh on Saturday. The Haryana fast-medium bowler received his India cap from Virat Kohli before making his first appearance for India in white-ball cricket.

Kamboj was added to India’s ODI squad after Prasidh Krishna suffered a hamstring injury during the second ODI in Guwahati. He was then named in the playing XI for the third match.

The 25-year-old had been with India A in Puducherry before joining the senior squad. He was playing the second unofficial Test against Australia A when the call-up arrived.

Kamboj made an immediate impact in that match. He took 3/34 from 17.3 overs as Australia A were dismissed for 358. He later bowled only two overs in the second innings before leaving to join India.

His place in the India A XI was then taken by Praful Hinge. The change allowed Kamboj to join the senior team for the ODI series against West Indies.

Kamboj was introduced into the India playing XI along with Nitish Kumar Reddy and Mohammed Siraj. India captain Shubman Gill confirmed the three changes at the toss.

Gill said India were using the series to understand the squad better ahead of the World Cup. He also said the bowling group had been somewhat inexperienced and needed more time together.

Kamboj’s ODI debut adds another step to a career that has progressed through domestic cricket, the IPL and Test cricket. He made his first-class debut for Haryana against Tripura in the Ranji Trophy on February 17, 2022.

He made his T20 debut for Haryana in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in October 2022. His List A debut followed in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in November 2022.

A major breakthrough came in the 2023-24 Vijay Hazare Trophy. Kamboj took 17 wickets in 10 matches for Haryana, which helped him attract attention from IPL teams.

Mumbai Indians selected him in the 2024 IPL auction. He made his IPL debut against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Wankhede Stadium on May 6, 2024.

Chennai Super Kings then bought Kamboj for ₹3.40 crore at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. He remained with CSK for the 2026 season and took 21 wickets in 14 appearances that season.

Kamboj also made his Test debut for India against England at Old Trafford in Manchester on July 23, 2025. He was the 318th player to represent India in Test cricket.

He entered the Test side as an injury replacement and took his first international wicket by dismissing Ben Duckett.

According to the latest career figures supplied, Kamboj has 113 wickets in 37 first-class matches at an average of 24.06. His List A record includes 56 wickets from 35 matches at 22.41.

He has also taken 76 wickets in 55 T20 matches at an average of 20.92. His IPL record stands at 31 wickets in 25 matches, including his 21 wickets for Chennai Super Kings in 2026.

Kamboj is a right-handed batter and right-arm fast-medium bowler. He primarily contributes with the ball and is known for accurate bowling and the ability to extract bounce.
